There seems to be a lot of confusion among photographers who develop their RAW files in Adobe Lightroom over which camera profile is best. There is no real answer to this question. "Best" is simply too subjective of a word to use when developing your own photos. I have found that the best profile depends on the source camera and the type of look you typically try to achieve. Select a test photo (or 2, 3...), do not make any adjustments except changing the profile, notice the subtleties between the various profile options. Once you find what you're looking for, be sure to save this profile as you default - all new photos that are imported will have this profile applied. Check out Robert Donovan's post for more useful tips on Lightroom custom develop settings here. Enjoy.
Update: Although I don't recommend saving creative edits with your default settings, they can be saved as Lightroom presets. There seems to be a myriad of downloadable presets available on the web. Check out Presets Heaven for starters.
